We are proud of the commitment that members of The Red W Club®
demonstrate. As a result, we continue to profile the accomplishments
and experiences of select members in issues of The Red W Club
newsletter. This issue, we introduce you to Joe Z., a native of
Lawrenceville, GA, and an avid competitive shooter.

  Name: Joe Z.
Home: Lawrenceville, GA (20 miles N.E. of Atlanta)
  Children: Daughter (17)
  Occupation: Automotive industry

First Shooting Experience: I began shooting when I was six years
old. My father and uncles were avid outdoorsmen, and they taught me
from an early age. I've been hunting/shooting now for over 40 years.

First Contact With Winchester Brand: I remember Winchester very
early on. My father and uncles hunted with Winchester and introduced
me to it on my very first hunting experience, when I was six.
Winchester has been a part of our family for a very long time.

What Winchester Means To Me: Quite simply, Winchester means quality.
It is what my father used, and that had a great deal of influence on
me. I figure that if he showed confidence in the brand, using it
time-after-time, that was good enough for me. Over the years, I've
done a little experimentation with other brands, but I always come
back to Winchester. There are very few brands that I trust.

How I became involved in The Red W Club: I came across The Red W
Club from research on the Internet. In my mind, shooting sports need
all the support they can get. I feel, that if we all take a bit more
time to get involved, it can only benefit our situation.

Expectations of The Advisory Council: I see The Red W Club as an
opportunity for Winchester to gain valuable input from the shooting
public and an opportunity for shooters to raise awareness of
additional products that we want to see. I'm involved with the
International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) and providing
feedback to Winchester through The Red W Club may lead to future
product developments that will cater to our sport.

Type of Shooting You Are Most Involved With: Unfortunately, I don't
get to hunt as much as I used to. Today, I'm more involved with the
'sport' side of shooting with IPSC. And to me, it is definitely a
sport. Some people see it as a game, but it goes well beyond that.

Biggest Obstacle Winchester Faces: The amount of regulations the
shooting industry faces is definitely an obstacle. We must place a
concentrated effort on making the public aware of safety standards.
Most people don't realize how safe our sport really is. And we must
continue to promote our sport, emphasizing the fun and educating the
public on what a good time it can be. I don't know anyone who has
come to one of our IPSC matches, who didn't come away with a thrill.
And you don't have to be a hunter to enjoy it.

How You Became Involved With IPSC: As I stated, I began hunting at a
very early age. But not long after that, my family moved to New
Jersey. Here, there wasn't as much opportunity to hunt, so I began
to drift away from it. In order to stay active though, I began
target shooting. Four years ago, I moved to Georgia, a very strong
environment for shooting sports. There are more ranges and we have
IPSC matches every weekend. Over 70 people make up our local club
and at least 30 participate in each match. Our club is a very
welcoming environment and a great group of friends. Other people
might go bowling every week. I go shooting.

How You Promote Your Sport: We get at least one or two new shooters
each week. We're very active in producing flyers and we often get
some helpful press coverage. We usually end up having several
spectators and our club is very good at doing all the promotion we
can at the matches. Each first-time shooter shoots for free. And
more often than not, they come back.
