Here are some pictures. For the movie clips, best results will probably be attained by downloading the file first and playing it off your local disk (right-click, Save Target As). Or, play it once, then replay it from your local cache.

How to Shoot IPSC

The focus of GPSL activities is on shooting. Here are some examples of how it is done.

  • Chris, a GPSL member, is classified as a Master class shooter. Here he shows his stuff.
    • An essential part of the sport is developing strong gun handling skills. This is recognized by attaining higher levels of Classification. Here Chris shoots his Open gun on the CM99-49 (Speed-E-Standards) course at the 2003 Tennessee Section match. Instructions are: shoot 1 round on each of 6 targets; reload; shoot 1 round on each of 6 targets; reload; shoot one round on each of 6 targets using weak hand only. Chris' time is 9.07 seconds. Classifier stages are akin to mastering your musical scales.
    • A major element of the sport is that stages can be as imaginative as the course designer can make them. The shooter "solves" the problem in a "freestyle" manner. Here Chris shoots a "field course" called "Wild Kingdom" by its designer at the 2003 Tennessee Section match. Chris' time is 13.59 seconds. Field courses are akin to musical improvisation.
    • For something completely different, Chris shoots his Limited gun on a stage called "Asteroids" at the 2003 Area 6 Championships. This features some moving targets - "swingers" - as well as a novel shooting position.

Matches

GPSL members attend lots of matches; both local club matches and major state, area, region and national matches. Here are some shots from various matches.
